social media

After reading about all of this social media stuff, i begin to realize how many different websites that enable people to communicate with each other. I think this is a very good idea, to a certain extent. If people are cooped up in their rooms all day blogging or constantly on facebook they are going to be social awkward. As a communications major i am being taught that personal experiences are very important. The cell phone and the internet is breaking down the communication etiquette. Decades from now i strongly believe that people are not going to no how to speak to each other in person.

  1. I agree with you that blogs and other social media can be an useful way for people to communicate with each other but can also make us less skilled at communicating in person. However I think that we can both enjoy social media and retain social skills by using social media only in moderation and being sure to use the phone and see people in person when possible. I don't think that the phone is damaging social etiquette because in using the phone, you are still having a regular conversation, requiring regular social skills and etiquette. My boyfriend and I live four hours apart so when we're not at Marist, we often go more than a month without seeing each other, and the phone is what helps us maintain regular communication. Fortunately I think more people are becoming aware of how social media can damage our social skills and I think that with this new awareness people will take the necessary measures to prevent themselves from becoming socially inept as a result of social media.

  2. I agree, its amazing to see how in depth blogs and other forms of social media can get. We can find anything we want at anytime, and stay in contact with others from across the globe. The best part of using a siocial media site is that the results are almost instant.
